Via Dolorosa is Latin for Way of Suffering and describes the route which Jesus would have taken to the cross. While several of the locations are clearly conjecture it nevertheless remains as a reminder of the likely route Jesus would have taken and the distance involved. When one arrives at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre the ornate buildings make it difficult for one to imagine the hill which was outside the city walls where Jesus was crucified. A couple drawings will help on better picture the site. (cf. here and here)
