After visiting the Citadel of Saladin our tour left Cairo and started the seven hour trip to Mount Sinai. This journey would lead us under the Suez Canal and along the Red Sea. Just about dark we arrived at the Saint Catherine’s Plaza Hotel. When we arrived it had rained a lot for the area and everything was soaked. Our luggage was unloaded into the mud, the lobby of the hotel had rain coming through the ceiling. Needless to say the accommodations here less than desirable (but they are the best in the area). Our second disappointment came during our evening devotional when we were informed that the police had closed Mount Sinai to climbers due to the rain.
