The ancient city of Nicea is known as Iznik today. The prominent feature of the ruins is the St. Sophia (some call Hagia Sophia) Church. It was the site of the Seventh Ecumenical Council (787 AD). The site of the First Ecumenical Council (325 AD) that met in the city has been destroyed. For more information, read here.
